The Mid-America Weary Scholarship is available to cable system employees, their spouses and children in the Mid-America region of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. You must also be enrolled in at least twelve (12) hours at your institution of choice. You must be at least a high school senior or eligible to enroll in college to apply.

In 1989, the Mid-America Weary Scholarship Foundation was founded in honor of cable entrepreneur and leader, Robert K. Weary (1921-2001), for his remarkable achievements in the cable industry.

Mr. Weary attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and his commitment to education never wavered. His education formed the bedrock of his many successful business ventures and community endeavors. Weary was the founder of three cable companies: Communications Services, Inc. which entered the cable television business in 1957 and grew to be the 30th largest cable MSO; Cable World; and W.K. Communications, Inc.

The Weary Scholarship is designed to help deserving, academically oriented students in furthering their college education. It provides a one-time payment, currently set at $1,000, which may be applied toward the tuition and/or room and board.

The Weary Scholarship is open to students who have a family member working for a cable operator in one of The Mid-America Cable Show states. Applicants must be high school seniors or students already in college.

Applications are judged according to academic performance, education and career goals, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and job experience. We encourage applicants to include letters of recommendation and information regarding your volunteer experiences. We also require proof of employment at a cable company, either the applicant or applicant’s parents.
